Making Movies with No Money

Anyone can make a movie. You just have to make your movie.

I'm living proof.

As an underground independent filmmaker, I make movies. I make movies with no money. I make films that are real, eye-opening, and films that most people are afraid to make.

And there is an audience hungry for that type of filmmaking.

No budget underground filmmaking.

To date, my films have screened at over 400 film festivals worldwide since I first started making films back in 2006. Just in the last year, I've made several films: a feature film documentary about burlesque that has screened at over 45 film festivals since last summer, and taken top honors at film festivals in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Seattle and Des Moines; 3 short films that have screened at over 30 film festivals over the last year; and now, a new short film that is having it's festival World Premiere this coming weekend in San Francisco.

And that one will explode on the festival circuit as well.

As an underground filmmaker, you don't make any money. But you can make films with no money. And have them screen around the world with no money. And build an audience hungry for your next movie with no money.

If you look at this as a business, and as a project to share your art with the world, there is no limit.

Make your movie.

NO BUDGET FILMMAKING
The Ebook
FREE During the 2017 Sundance & Slamdance Film Festivals

Well, it's about that time.

I've been working like a madman getting ready for the Park City madness that's called Sundance.

But to be honest....I'm looking much more forward to being at Slamdance.

The Park City madness is getting ready to start. I'm about ready for the insanity.

It's a job just getting ready for the annual adventure. Since my first film screened in Park City at Slamdance in 2006, I've been there 5 times in the last 10 years. This will make my 6th trip in the last 11 years.

A lot's changed over the years. And not for the better. But every year's different. This'll be my first trip back to Sundance and Slamdance in 3 years. The 2017 edition. It'll be interesting to see how things have changed, what's different and what's stayed the same.

Got a jammed packed schedule. I'll be arriving tomorrow, and staying for 5 days. Every day is packed with things to do, and I'm not even there yet. Between all the parties, panels, events, lounges, networking and films to see, there's going to be too much to do.

But what I'll enjoy most....is reuniting and networking with my Slamdance family.

We'll see what we get done.

I'll be there trying to find people for my next feature film. Plus, making my new ebook NO BUDGET FILMMAKING free during the entire film festival. Through Sundance & Slamdance 2017. Here's access to the free ebook during the 2017 Park City madness called Sundance & Slamdance:

Okay. Let's see what we can get done today before heading up to Park City.

Sundance & Slamdance 2017 - Time for the Park City Madness

Well, it's that time of year again.

Time for the annual Park City madness.

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival starts Thursday. The Slamdance Film Festival starts Friday.

And I can't wait.

It's been 3 years since I've been up to the hill. First film screened at Slamdance in 2006. Have had several films play there over the years. Was on the Jury 4 years ago. A programmer 3 years ago.

True independent film is in my blood.

It'll be interesting to see how much it's changed in 3 years. When I was going annually, every year was a change. And not for the better. It's becoming more commercial and star driven every year.

Let's see how it is in 2017.

I'll be there promoting my new NO BUDGET FILMMAKING ebook and looking for people to work on my next feature film.

I can't wait for the Park City madness.

Hello 2017 - A New Year for No Budget Filmmaking

Well, here we are. It's a new year.

A new year for projects. A time to put the last year behind us.

2016 was a great year for projects. Ran for Congress. Wrote a new book. Made 2 short films. What a year for the books.

2017 brings more projects. Working on a new feature film. 3 short films to get made. Sundance and Slamdance this month in Park City.

And more to come.

True, original, underground, no budget filmmaking. It doesn't get much better than this.

Hello, 2017. Welcome to the world of independent filmmaking.

No Budget Filmmaking - Wrapping up 2016

Well, 2016's coming to a close. What have you done this year with your creative juices?

Anyone can make a movie. With no money. I'm living proof.

What a year. It's December. Reflecting back on 2016, I've got a lot done. Made a new short film and got it already screened to over 20 film festivals this year. Ran for Congress. Had films screen at over 50 film festivals this year. And am editing a new short film to come out early 2017.

All on no money.

It's amazing what you can get done with nothing.

Wrapping Up Summer in the Middle of Nowhere

THE UNDERGROUND FILMMAKER

It's been a busy summer.

To put it mildly, it's been one hell of a summer.

And there's still the month of August to go.

What can you get done in the middle of nowhere? On no money? With no budget?

Quite a bit. I'm living proof.

Since I came back to my ghost town the end of January, a lot's been done out here in the middle of nowhere:

Made a new short film
Wrote a new book
Screened films at over 50 film festivals worldwide
Ran a monthly free short film festival worldwide
Ran for U.S. Congress

All on no money.

That's just a recap off the top of my head. A lot of other things have happened too.

And things just keep rocking.

I love being an underground filmmaker.
