Filmmaking is a business.
That's what it comes down to. It doesn't matter if the movie you make was made with 100 million bucks or with just a camera and a computer. You have to treat your movie like a business or it won't be successful.
Your film is a product. Just like anything else a person buys that they hold in their hand. A cup of coffee. A car. A pair of shoes. A DVD of your film. It doesn't matter. You have a product that you have to sell and market to the world. It's up to you whether you do it or have other people do it. But you have to create a mentality of film being a business.
This is what separates the most successful filmmakers from the rest of the pack. Most moviemakers don't have a business sense. They just have a creative and artistic side. If you can merge both together, you will stand out from the independent film crowd and be successful.

interesting , u talk about showing your movie at 300 festivals, thats 25( minimum as entry fee alone ) * 300 $ so you are down 7500 for no reason at all, now how is that good business sense ? ;)
